BREAKWATER PROJECT
We have recognized the critical need to replace our crumbling breakwater
structure and a committee began working on a replacement project early in
2007.   The breakwater committee spent the next twenty two (22) months
seeking permits, working out financing scenarios, and designing a
replacement “Wave Attenuator.”  The design, construction, and labor
involved in completing this project are extensive.  It will take a tremendous
commitment - financially and physically - to complete the project in a
required timely manner.

On November 21, 2008, the Corps of Engineers issued their approval of the
project, and construction began soon after.  The first phase of construction
included building and floating into place the first three (3) of fifteen (15)
sections of the wave attenuator.  The Corps of Engineers permit allowed us
to perform "in-the-water" work only from December 1 through February 15,
which required construction crews to work every weekend until the project
was completed.

It was recognized fairly early on that the labor required was vast, so at the
December 2008 board meeting authorization was given to contract with a commercial welding company to construct the three sections
of steel frame and deliver them to the club.  This allowed us to meet the time we had for getting the attenuator sections in the water.

A call was placed to all members able to help on the weekends of February 7 and 8, and February 14 and 15, to move the three steel
structures into the water, bolt the baffles to the sides of the steel frames, bolt the three sections together and float Phase I of the
attenuator into place.  The turnout was great, and the assembly and flotation of the three sections was completed on February 15 in
spite of the unusually cold winter we experienced.
Thank you to everyone who participated
in successfully completing our
wave attenuator project!!
